Help Chef Mark Guzman of Meals On US PDX
2020 has been a tough year for so many people. Many of us are just barely surviving. Some of us are working very hard to continue helping the community, even on rare days off. Chef Mark Guzman “Goose” is one of those individuals. On Thanksgiving weekend, he hurt his foot after spending hours cooking and putting together hundreds of free meals for the Portland community. And what he thought was just an overworked, tired feet has actually put him out of work for a week now. And today’s doctor’s appointment brought even more bad news — two small fractures in his toe and achilles tendinitis! Doctor has put him on bed rest for 3 more weeks. That’s if things heal according to plan! If you work in the food cart industry, you know that benefits are non-existent to limited. No work = no income. No such thing as paid time off. Not only will “Goose” be out of work for a long period of time, but he will also have out of pocket expenses related to his medical needs.
I know that it’s a hard time to ask for money. If you are in a positionto help out, every little bit counts. My friend Goose has paid forward thousands of meals since the early covid times. Thru the pandemic, he and his team were able to setup a nonprofit called Meals On Us PDX to continue their mission of ‘One Love, no Hate, no Discrimination” volunteer-run and donation supported program of providing healthy meals to those who need it.
Goose is going to need more than hugs and positive vibes. I hope that together, we can pitch in towards his recovery and healing. No contribution is too small! Thank you for your support and belief in paying it forward. And if you cannot afford to make a donation, don’t worry! Some words of encouragement provide healing too!
Portland friends and beyond, please help spread the word. Goose has helped so many community members. We are fortunate to have him here. Every penny collected will be sent to Goose to help with his medical and financial expenses while recovering.
