My name is Asa Newton, and I’m fundraising for someone who means the world to me—my mentor, Chef James Morier.

James is not just a brilliant chef—he’s a visionary. He cooks for all the right reasons: to nourish, to uplift, and to share joy. As the heart and hands behind Cosmic Bird, a wildly popular vegan pop-up restaurant, James has redefined comfort food with his incredible fauxltry dishes. From Kentucky to California, Chicago to Hawaii, and nearly ever state in between his bold flavors and compassionate cuisine have made him a favorite in the plant-based food scene.

But today, James is in crisis.

In September 2024, James was hit hard by a severe case of acute bronchitis, which developed into lung polyps. In December, while still recovering, he suffered a serious fall. The physical toll has left him immobile, critically obese, and struggling to survive. As his health declined, so did his financial situation. He’s now facing:

Eviction

Overdue bills

Van repairs (essential for Cosmic Bird’s pop-ups)

Limited access to healthy, healing food

Despite all of this, James remains hopeful. With the help of his medical team, he is slowly healing—but the weight of financial stress is threatening to undo all the progress he’s made.
