Help Chef Booli
Hello! This is Cella, Booli’s partner. I really wanted to post this on their behalf because anyone who knows them is aware they are so humble and refuse to seek help.
Unfortunately at the end of July so many things happened all at once and so incredibly quick, I know that they are very stressed financially in this time. To help familiarize you with Booli they are an amazing Oakland chef who started their own company, Fish and Bonez which launched in the beginning of July. They brought us all the most amazing pickles, sauces, and salsas that went over so well! (Thank you so much of you’ve already purchased their amazing goods) Their whole goal is to offer delicious pantry staples to us spruce up our meals at home and keep things exciting. Giving back is also very important to them and they chose a local farm to donate 10% of all July sales to. As we all know margins are really tight when starting anything up and any profit made went right back into purchasing more products to give us more of those amazing Fish and Bonez staples.
At the end of July Booli received a threatening email from a past roommate who had caused them extreme financial and physical harm for months before Booli asked them to leave. Booli wrote their landlord at that time to inform him this roommate will no longer be living at their residence and that they will be taking over the lease. 10 months later, said roommate (whom withheld months of rent/utility bills and abused drugs while living there) was demanding their deposit back and threatening the security of Booli’s home in this email. Booli went straight to their landlord, who agreed he knew this roommate moved out, but since he didn’t receive proper documentation (that wasn’t requested) if this roommate asked for entry to their residence, the landlord would provide this roommate with keys. Booli expressed their discomfort and harm this roommate caused and this landlord refused to protect them even though it had been almost a year since this person had lived there and had no belongings at the residence. Because of this they found and moved into a new space in less than a week to flee this unsafe situation.
They had to use most of the money they made to come up with an unexpected deposit/first months rent/uhaul/supplies for this very necessary move with no preparation.
In addition to this hardship, Booli got a call from their surgeon to have them schedule their top surgery. It was originally scheduled for March but was cancelled due to the pandemic. It is now scheduled for August 21st which gives them very little time to make any money through their business Fish and Bonez before they will be on bed rest healing from this.
I am making this Go fund me because Booli is the most selfless, generous person I’ve even known. Seeing them scrape by and support others when they are barely staying afloat says so much about who they are. This will be to help them pay for rent/bills/food for time they will be healing, for follow up medical and wellness visits post surgery, and to keep Fish and Bonez afloat while they won’t be able to produce products. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this. If you have the means please help me to support this incredible black/lantinx non-binary trans chef.
