This is one of those things I never thought I’d have to make. I’m not usually the type to ask for help — but our sweet boy Cheese needs it.

We adopted Cheese on March 20, 2024 from Animal Care Sanctuary. When we met him, he was lounging in a big office chair like he owned the place. The staff handed him to me and joked, “He doesn’t have much going on between those ears,” — and right then, I knew he was our cat.

Cheese instantly became part of our family. He’s always had his tongue out, slept in the weirdest positions, and brought so much laughter into our home. But now, he’s in constant pain.

When we first adopted him, he had a few broken teeth — we were told it wasn’t urgent. Unfortunately, the vet we saw never warned us that he had gingivitis starting, and over time every tooth in his mouth has become rotten. We never wanted to torture him by forcing his mouth open to check, so we didn’t realize how bad things had gotten.

When we switched vets, they showed us the reality — Cheese needs a full dental extraction as soon as possible. The total cost is about $4,000. We’ve managed to save half, but he can’t wait much longer. He’s dropped from 12 pounds to just 7, and even on pain meds and a liquid diet, he still can’t eat without hurting himself. After every bite, he claws and swats at his face, frustrated that his mouth won’t let him enjoy food anymore.

It breaks our hearts to watch him decline. He used to play, chirp, and sit in the window for hours. Now he mostly sleeps, barely interested in the world around him. We just want to see him healthy again — looking out the windows, going on walks, and eating without pain.

We told the vet we’d try to have the full amount before the end of the year, but we can’t do it alone. Any amount, even the smallest donation, will go directly toward getting Cheese the surgery he desperately needs.
