UPDATE: I lowered the amount here because some people have donated directly to the rescue.
i still can’t believe I’m writing this. In less than 24 hours, Cheecho’s fundraising goal HAS BEEN MET!! We were able to raise all the money needed for his care.
I am beyond myself. I’m still shocked, amazed, and overwhelmed by how quickly this community came together for him. I truly don’t have the words to express how grateful I am. Every single donation, share, message, and kind word means more than you will ever know.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every one of you who showed up for Cheecho.
This is just the beginning of his journey. I will be updating you all on Cheecho’s road from here on out, every step of the way. I’m planning to visit him tomorrow and hoping to show you how he’s doing and share more updates very soon.
Thank you for believing in him and for reminding me how powerful this community truly is.
My name is Bruna, and you might know me from my page, Sharing Love. I am a volunteer at Cobb County Animal Services, and for the past two and a half years I have dedicated all of my time to helping shelter dogs find their forever homes.
Yesterday, we were all so excited to finally see our longest resident, Cheecho, leave the shelter. After four long months of waiting, he was rescued by BarkVille Dog Rescue and went to his foster home. I have not even had time to post his freedom ride yet, and unfortunately, today I received this heartbreaking news.
Help Us Give Cheecho the Chance He Deserves
Cheecho spent four long months at Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta, GA after coming in as a cruelty case. He was severely underweight and neglected, just skin and bones. Despite everything he’s been through, Cheecho is gentle, trusting, and so ready to be loved.
When Cheecho arrived with his foster family, we noticed he held his front leg a little oddly and planned to have it checked at his intake exam. Sadly, overnight his condition took a sudden and devastating turn. Cheecho woke up barely able to move, doing everything he could to avoid moving his neck and shoulder because of the intense pain.
His foster dad rushed him to our regular veterinarian, where X-rays and an exam raised serious concern for a neurological issue. Cheecho was immediately referred to the emergency hospital so he could receive IV medications and round-the-clock care to keep him comfortable. The ER veterinarian agrees this is likely neurological in nature.
For this weekend, the plan is to keep Cheecho stable, comfortable, and carefully monitored.
The estimated cost for weekend care is $5,000–$6,000.
On Monday, Cheecho will have a neurology consult and will likely need an MRI and possibly surgery to determine the cause and give him the best chance at recovery.
The estimated total cost for his care is $14,000–$17,000.
I know this is a lot of money. But I also know that when we rescue a dog, we make a promise to do everything in our power to make their life better and to help them find a loving forever home. Cheecho has already survived cruelty and months of waiting. Now that he’s finally safe, I truly believe he deserves every chance at a healthy, happy future.
Please consider making a donation to help cover Cheecho’s medical care. Your generosity, whether through donating or sharing his story, means more than I can ever express.
Thank you for believing in Cheecho and standing with him when he needs it most.
