Hi, I want to introduce you to a young lady, Chaya Dillard, 19 years old, who is attending Savannah College of Arts and Design in Atlanta, Georgia. Until yesterday, it seemed as though all of Chaya's dreams had come true. She is a freshman at the Savannah College of Arts and Design and has been sharing an apartment with several other students who were also part of the Savannah College of Arts and Design. Yesterday, tragedy struck, and the apartment she shared with several other young ladies who were also a part of the Savannah College of Arts and Design caught fire. Unfortunately, everything Chaya and the other students had was lost in the fire... everything. From their clothing items to their art supplies, college books and assignments, and all of their essential school supplies were lost in just a matter of minutes. What started out yesterday as one day in which Chaya's dreams were coming true ended in tragedy and a loss of everything. Fortunately, and by the grace of God, there were no fatalities because of this fire, and we are eternally grateful for that, but the tragedy of losing everything for these young girls, some who didn't even live in this country, will be great. Without being able to replace some essential items necessary to carry on with daily activities, it is doubtful if Chaya will be able to continue in school.
I know Chaya's mother, and she is one of the kindest, most giving, loving people in this world. I know that she works hard and has devoted her life's work to helping individuals rebuild their lives in other areas. As a community, it would be wonderful to see some of her kindness and giving to others returned now in her daughter's time of need. She is an excellent mother. She and I have often talked about our children and how much they mean to us. I could not imagine having to watch my child go through losing everything and even the possibility of staying in a college that is her dream because of a tragic incident that was no fault of hers.
Chaya needs the essentials to be able to carry on in her day-to-day college activities. She needs essential art supplies and other school supplies as well as clothing and everyday items so that she may continue with her college studies. Any amount that you can contribute to Chaya would be most appreciated to get her back on her way to a successful college career, one that she has loved so much and has done so well in.
We humbly ask for your help during this tragic time, and thank you so much for any assistance you may provide. If we make what is necessary, any overages will be shared among her roommates who also lost everything. Thank you.
