Chavie is losing the fight. She has a chronic condition that causes her to have recurring bowel obstructions which are fatal and requires hospitalization. She’s been in the hospital 6 times this year, each stay lasting as long as 8 days. Each admission requires NG decompression (tube up the nose going down to her belly to try and “vacuum out” the obstruction). This is an excruciating procedure. Each admission requires multiple CT scans, X-rays, and many invasive tests and therapies to monitor and try and clear the obstructions.

Chavie is now fighting to keep a roof over her head, facing eviction while trying to manage and navigate a very debilitating and painful medical condition.

Let me tell you about Chavie. Chavie is an incredibly talented photographer and designer. On the days she’s not in excruciating pain, she makes time to go out and capture the beauty in the world. Chavie is the hardest working person I know. No matter how bad things get, she’s up early morning, her work days are often 12 hours long, and she fights with every cell in her body to stay afloat and to keep fighting.

Chavie was raised in the Hasidic community in Brooklyn, NY. She grew up in a very abusive home and then at 19, when she was working at a medical center, she was raped and abused by her boss over an extended period of time. This manifested itself into a horrible battle with anorexia, for which she bravely seeked treatment and for which she paid out of pocket over $250,000. After a serious suicide attempt, she decided that New York had too much history and trauma for her, always feeling scared that her boss will come back to hurt her, and she decided to move to Florida to heal.

With frequent hospitalizations and constant pain, a traditional job is impossible for her to hold down. Meanwhile, her medical bills are piling up, and she is facing eviction now. She’s feeling the deepest despair, wanting to give up, and she deserves better.

The world needs a Chavie in it. Her art and writing is so impactful and no doubt will help save many lives.
