Help Chatham Fight CD34 Leukemia

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

We never thought we’d have to write something like this, but our dog Chatham has been diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia. This news has completely shattered our hearts, but we are determined to give her the best chance at the longest, happiest life possible.

Chatham is our second dog and has brought so much love and joy into our lives. Chatham just turned 5 years old on March 15th; we brought her home when she was only 8 weeks old, right in the midst of COVID lockdowns. She was found under a house with her siblings and was the only brindle in her litter, so we knew it was meant to be. When she was a puppy, everyone would ask us if she was Brewster's (our other dog) baby when we went on walks. She has always been the goofiest girl, in charge of guarding us from everything she can see or hear out the windows, especially squirrels and cats! Her sister loves to drag her around in the backyard, but Chat always bounces back at her for more play. She is always down for a snuggle on the couch, and makes sure to sit as close as she can to anyone who visits.

In her yearly check up this February, her bloodwork showed very low counts across the board. Low platelets, white blood cells, red blood cells, neutrophils, you name it. Meanwhile, sweet Chat was still seemingly her normal self: playing with her sister, barking at everything outside, eating treats and food, and napping in sun patches. We sent her blood sample off to NC State to get more extensive testing, hoping she had somehow contracted Bartonella (cat-scratch fever). When that test came back negative and her bloodwork continued to be low after weeks on antibiotics, we were referred to an oncologist.

The treatment for her leukemia is very expensive, and the costs of vet visits, medications, and chemotherapy are quickly adding up. We're trying to do everything we can, but we can’t do this alone. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Chatham’s medical bills and care.

The test to confirm her diagnosis cost approximately $3,300, and each round of her chemotherapy (administered about once a week) will be approximately $1,000. We are hoping to have her with us for the entire chemotherapy protocol and beyond, and therefore have our goal set accordingly.

If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean the world to us. Every bit of support helps, and we are forever grateful for your kindness and generosity.

Thank you for helping us give Chatham the best chance she deserves.

With love and gratitude,
Hunter & Kathryn Scott
