Help Chastity Live Fully with ALS

Hey everyone,

My name is Taylor Norris, and this is the last place I wanted to be, but asking for help from your community is sometimes necessary. My 40-year-old sister, Chastity, was recently diagnosed with limb onset ALS. If you are not familiar with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), it is a fatal type of motor neuron disease. It causes progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain. ALS is one of the most devastating types of disorders that affect nerve and muscle function and can have a pretty rapid onset in decline. It will eventually take away her ability to move, speak, eat, and breathe. The lifespan after diagnosis is 1-3 years, but not all of that time will be spent being able to enjoy movement, which is the scariest to think about. I cannot even begin to wrap my head around the thought of losing my sister and can only imagine how she is feeling and how her boyfriend and children are feeling. We unfortunately cannot fight this disease or search for a cure because there is not one. What we CAN do is help my sister live while she still has the chance. We CAN help her have financial security to keep a roof over her head, gas for medical appointments, money towards medical supplies we will need in order to care for her, and most importantly, funds to help her experience the beauty and joy the world can offer her. A trip with her family, sending her somewhere tropical she has never seen to make memories with her kids. The bubbly, loud, loving, playful person who would give what she can to others needs us now. Her family needs us now. They need hope and reassurance that in this difficult journey they are not alone.
