My name is Leroy Chase Hodge IV, and I am a sophomore at Morehouse College, majoring in Political Science with a double minor in Sociology and English. My journey at Morehouse has been both challenging and rewarding, and I finished my first year with a 3.27 GPA. However, my path has become much more difficult since my mother, Jill Meriweather, was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma, a rare form of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. As my sole provider, she has always put my needs above her own, working tirelessly to support my education. Her illness has left her not being able to work consistently, and she has invested all her savings to help me attend Morehouse for my first year.
With my mother’s diagnosis, the financial strain on our family has grown. I have done everything I can to stay in school—working at a restaurant, applying for scholarships, and seeking help from family and friends. Despite these efforts, I am now out of options. The funds I am raising will go directly toward tuition, housing, books, and other essential college expenses. My dream is to become a Morehouse Man and, one day, a corporate attorney. Morehouse offers the network and environment I need to pursue these goals, and I am determined to maintain a GPA above 3.5 while building connections that will help me succeed.
I want to be a champion for my goals so my mother can focus on getting better. Any support will help me continue my education and honor the sacrifices my mother has made. If you have any questions or would like to donate another way please contact me at [phone redacted].
