Help Charmian and Chelsea with Medical Costs
Donation protected
At just 24 years old, Chelsea was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer in May of 2020. With her mom, Charmian by her side, she began the tough treatment of chemotherapy.
She responded well, despite having issues with her liver, and after a year she went back to college (about 2 hours away), where she continued chemo. In August of 2021, the tumors had shrunk, her numbers looked great, and she was considered “stable” (in cancer world that’s a really good thing).
At this point she could either “maintain” treatment or get more aggressive, of course, she wanted to get more aggressive. The goal of the surgery was to clean up the liver so she could finally start working on the tumor her in colon.
Following 2 surgeries for radioembolization (so doctors could try to find the arteries feeding the tumors), she was in a lot of pain and her liver was severely swollen. After a course of steroids, Chelsea still felt terrible and doctors decided to do a chest x-ray and a CT. The scan showed that her liver was still super inflamed and there were spots on one of her lungs and in the lymph nodes by her spine, along with some fluid in her lower abdomen.
They drained the fluid from her stomach and talked about starting a new course of chemo in a few weeks, so Chelsea and Charmian decided to go home.
When Chelsea's health continued to decline, they went to Moffitt Cancer Center, where she was admitted to ICU. A number of doctors examined Chelsea and her scans, which showed issues with her kidneys too. The cancer is attacking her body and it seemed best for her to rest at home. We hope and pray for strength in this journey.
