Help Charlotte Recover from a Devastating Brain Injury
Donation protected
On behalf of my wife, Charlotte.
Charlotte is 25 years old, and is a dedicated athlete, fierce competitor, and the most vibrant woman I’ve ever met. In college, she was captain of the University of Wisconsin women's rowing team, and has maintained a high level of fitness since graduating in 2021.
On April 16, Charlotte was hit by a car while she was out for a run, training for the Madison Marathon. A driver ran a red light while distracted by his phone, hitting Charlotte, who was crossing in a signalized crosswalk. We give our utmost thanks go to the first responders with Madison Police, Fire, and EMS, whose critical care at the scene of the accident saved her life.
Charlotte suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from the accident, landing her in critical condition. She underwent several emergency surgeries in the days following the accident to mitigate the spread of the brain damage. She has remained in an induced coma since the accident.
While much of Charlotte’s condition and recovery prognosis is still unclear, her scans indicate that the magnitude of her injury is incredibly severe. The scans show damage that will require intensive rehabilitation to regain basic motor and cognitive function. A significant period of inpatient care is anticipated, followed by at-home care.
This tragic accident comes in a year that has otherwise been blessed for Charlotte and me. After 5 years of saving to build a life together, we had our wedding a few months ago (September 2024), and got the keys to our first home just a week prior to the accident. Everything that we’ve built together has been upended in an instant.
Support for our cause will go directly towards:
- Medical bills
- Rehabilitative care and required equipment (wheelchair, hospital bed rental, stair lift, etc.)
- Home accessibility and safety improvements (ramps, grab bars, etc.)
If you can help—either by donating or sharing this story—we are deeply grateful. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us to provide Charlotte the care she needs, and improve her safety and quality of life when she is able to come home.
Please keep her in your prayers.
