Today I went in to my 16 week OBGYN appointment excited to see my baby for the first time in two months. After a grooling ultrasound it came to the attention of my doctor that my baby had skull abnormalities and she rushed me to see a specialist.

Four hours later we have learned that our baby has Anencephaly or a baby with an underdeveloped brain and incomplete skull. A baby born with anencephaly will only survive a few days after birth. After hearing this diagnosis the doctor provided me my options. Abortion will not be covered by my health insurance as the baby can still be brought to full term so health insurance will not take a stance politically to allow me to abort my baby with a death sentence.

I have never felt so broken. I am sorry dear Charlotte that you are not going to get to see this world like normal children. We love you so much and wish we didn't have to make these difficult decisions.
