Help Charlotte Veiga Conquer Cancer!

My name is Jenn Byrne, an aunt to the most amazing, beautiful, and courageous 6-year-old girl whose name is Charlotte. Charlotte is going through the fight of her life right now, going through more than any of us adults may ever even have to face in our lives.

At the mere age of 5 years old, Charlotte was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). It has been a few months since Charlotte was diagnosed with Leukemia, and she has had countless number of hospital stays and treatments. Each week they go for a treatment and are back just a few days later for blood transfusions, etc. as her little body is having trouble with all the medications. My sister, Treva and her husband, Andrew, learned that she must skip over a few of the chemotherapy treatments as Charlotte’s body just can’t handle them. One medication that she NEEDS is over $2400 after medical insurance, and that is for only 14 total pills, among countless other uncovered medical expenses that are constantly accruing. Since Charlotte’s diagnosis, my sister had to take a leave of absence from work, they are constantly paying for parking at the hospital, gas to get there, etc.

The doctors told them at the beginning of all this that Charlotte would have a long road for at least 3 years. They are only about 6 months into her treatments. Even with all these roadblocks and no matter how physically or emotionally drained Charlotte is, she smiles every day. She just wants to play with her sisters, cousins and be back in school with her friends.

Charlotte and Treva are the two strongest people I have ever known. Charlotte triumphs every day and brings joy to anyone that she is around. Treva has two other daughters, Kylie 17 years old and Payton 9 years old. I was always already astounded by how great of a mother that Treva is as she juggled a teenager, another daughter with autism, and a kindergartener without ever showing stress and always being willing to help anyone.

Many of those who know and care about Charlotte have asked what they can do to help. Helping Treva and Andrew take on the challenges of uncovered medical expenses, decreased income, and incidental expenses is the easiest way to lend a hand so they can focus on taking care of Charlotte.
