Then COVID.....
The last 2 years have been the most difficult 2 years of my career. At the end of 2021 my Funding programme and my Olympic solidarity programme came to an end after the 4 year cycle. After the 2020 season, my mental health was not in the right position for me to even train let alone compete. I was diagnosed with depression in March 2020 which put me in a really dark place and felt that I was on this journey on my own. I lived with my best friend at the time and I can honestly say she saw me through some of my darkest moments. During 2021, I was diagnosed with Glandular fever which had effected many of my training sessions and competitions which resulted in me ending my 2021 season early. I was training so hard and hitting PB times in training but something was NOT right and my recovery was not where it should have been. I had an elevated blood pressure, loss of breathe and serious fatigue. After numerous visits to the doctors and a number of blood tests we finally found the answers we were looking for. During this time I had the most amazing family and friends I could ask for as people are so quick to praise you when you're doing well, but when you need the support the most no one is there for you.
WHY DO I NEED YOUR HELP?
After a great deal of thought, lots of conversations and many reservations , I have decided that the best thing for me was to set up a go fund me.
I am a fully self-funded athlete and now work full time 9-5. This year is the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and my aim is to qualify for the 200m. For preparation for these games my coach Adam McMullen wants to take the group out for a 4 week training camp to Florida, to give me the chance to train in a warmer climate as well as compete in some high class competitions. This camp will allow me to take some time off my full time work which is 9-5 to put some quality preparation in to the lead up to the games. This indoor season I opened up with my fastest 200m in 2 years. I still have a way to go but I am positive training is going well that I will hit the Commonwealth Games standard. Even though I work full time, I'm still trying to train full time as an athlete, but with zero funding trying to accommodate all my needs is becoming very difficult. The money raised will help towards
- flights
- accommodation
- track and gym fees
- race fees
- car hire
for the duration I will be out in Florida. My Coach Adam has put me in a position where I am starting to love the sport which I fell in love with at the age of 11.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
Your donations will help me massively to achieve my goal. I believe that i'm heading back into shape after a tough few years. You will be helping the Maltese national record holder over 5 events achieve her goal of attending the COMMONWEALTH 2022 GAMES. I cant wait to start this journey and to know that their are people out that who have followed me and have enjoyed watching my successes.
