Hi my name is Elizabeth Bowden and my daughter and her husband got the news no parent wants to hear Today about my two year granddaughter, Charlie. Charlie is two years old and is happy and otherwise healthy girl until last week. A bump was noticed on her abdomen last week and that was followed by a doctors appointment and ultrasound on Friday 6/7/24 which showed an approximate golf ball size mass on her left kidney, which was then today followed by CT and meeting with pediatric surgeon and pediatric oncologist. She was diagnosed with a Wilm’s tumor (nephroblastoma) that is the size of a softball and she also has two spots on her lungs. The tumor is too big to surgically remove so she is going to have to undergo chemo to shrink the tumor so it can then can be removed. The financial problems comes from the chemo that she will need as they do not do that in Montana, so they will need to go to a bigger children’s hospital to undergo chemo for about 6 weeks. (Colorado, Seattle, or Utah was the options mentioned). My daughter recently left her job to spend more time with her daughter and her husband is only working part time hours as he is waiting for full time hours and finances are a huge barrier to the road they are going to be headed down. We are not sure what the future is going to look like. Any funds that they receive will be able to allow them to be with Charlie out of state for her during her chemo treatments and whatever supplies, lodging (not sure which location or if there are options for them yet there), and needs that will arise. The biopsy is scheduled for this week to be able to check histology and make sure it is not an even rarer form of kidney cancer as there are only 500 cases a year diagnosed of Wilm’s tumors. The goal was just a suggestion from go fund me as this is a new diagnosis and all the details have not been decided yet but should be this week. My daughter, (Morgan)Charlie’s mom, never likes to ask for help especially money but she is the first one to help people, open doors for people, return lost wallets, and is an amazing mom and if I was able to I would lessen the financial burden but I think they best way to help her is to help elevate whatever the financial hurdles are going to be on Charlie’s Cancer journey to remission! Please help make Charlie’s journey smoother by helping mom and dad not to have to worry about all the financial issues so they can focus on her!
