Our son Charlie was t-boned on his motorcycle by a reckless tourist in Destin on April 8. I'm not going to sugar coat it or give a sob story. Charlie had compound fractures of both legs and kneecaps. He had a compound fracture of his left arm that required two surgeries. His pelvis was shattered. His right wrist was shattered. He broke ribs. The accident was not his fault, but he has (of this writing) been in a rehabilitation center for five weeks. The orthopedic surgeon anticipates twelve weeks. Charlie is currently not drawing a paycheck, and it is uncertain whether he will be able to return to work. Everything is uncertain except for the bills. Charlie has insurance, but quite honestly, he is going to need financial help, even if there is insurance coverage.
No gift is too small, and every gift is appreciated. Charlie will be able to use the money for his immediate needs and medical co-pays, which will give him some peace of mind. He does have a lawyer and is filing a lawsuit, but you would be shocked at the dollar amount shown on the hospital Explanation of Benefits. It is astronomical. Of course, Charlie will need medical care and physical therapy well beyond any known timeframe. Your contribution will be in a special account.
Maybe you know our family well. Charlie spent his childhood years in Georgia, and his teen years in Stafford, Virginia. He served as a Marine. He was a powerlifter. Maybe you know Mike, Charlie's dad, former Army captain, FBI profiler. Mr. Serious sleeps in a recliner every night by Charlie's side, so he never feels alone. Maybe you know Andrew, Charlie's brother, who grew up in Stafford. Or maybe you know me, Nancy (Meineke) Yoder. Maybe you don't know any of us well, but you somehow understand how difficult this must be, and you want to help. For that, for ALL of YOU. Thank you. Thank you.
