Help Charlie Knape Rebuild After Sailboat Accident

Dear friends and community,

On November 16th, 2024, Charlie Knape’s beloved sailboat, Karuna, tragically sank after a harrowing accident. Charlie had been battling with engine issues and was forced to sail Karuna motorless. In the early morning hours, the combination of gale-force winds and powerful currents in the Canal de Ballena drove Karuna onto the rocky shore of Bahia Alcatraz. Despite his best efforts to save her, the hull was severely damaged. When the next high tide came, Karuna was dragged off the rocks, but the damage was too great, and she sank just off the point in deep water.

Charlie was fortunate to escape unharmed, but in the process, he lost everything—his home, his possessions, and the boat that had been his life. While this is a heartbreaking loss, we are thankful that Charlie is safe.

Now, we’re reaching out to help Charlie rebuild from this devastating setback. This fundraiser is to support him as he replaces essentials and gets back on his feet. As many of you know, Charlie is a kind and generous person who has always shared laughter, stories, and good company with anyone lucky enough to cross his path in an anchorage. He would do anything to help others in need, and now it’s our turn to help him.
