Help Charlie Overcome His Fear of Leashes
Donation protected
Hello to all those reading this! Animal Rescue Konnection (animalrescuekonnection.org) is raising funds for a 4-year-old Norwegian Elkhound under the care of a MA animal control.
We've had to raise our goal to $1,000 because the original training fell through. Another trainer agreed to work with Charlie but explained that he should really attend a regular board and train program which is six weeks long.
Please help Charlie receive the training he needs. He cannot be adopted without overcoming this fear.
When most dogs see the leash come out, their eyes get wide and they wag their tails! No matter how deep they’re sleeping, as soon as you get their leash out they are ready to go, go, go!
Not Charlie. To this Norwegian Elkhound, the leash and collar do not mean good things are coming. He wants nothing to do with either which is making it very difficult for him to find a home.
We know Charlie has it in him to overcome this challenge! He has shown how wonderful he is in other ways. While in the shelter for the past few months, he’s shown so much potential. He loves getting time out of the kennel so he can play ball and have human contact. His smile is infectious and he wants so much to love and be loved. He's also trusting his advocate more and more each day.
Charlie is afraid of what should be a normal part of his life for a reason. It all started four years ago when he was sold as a puppy to two 80-year-olds. Well-meaning, they were not prepared or able to keep up with a large working dog.
Charlie was never trained. He did not know what to do with himself. An insular life that lacked exercise, recreation, and activities took its toll on him. Charlie is now with animal control in Webster, MA. The officer has become Charlie’s number one fan and advocate, and is literally working to save his life.
We hope you’ll agree Charlie deserves a chance to overcome his fear so he’s better prepared for a new home. A behavior and training evaluation confirms his potential. Charlie’s training will be at a steep discount of $2,000. Municipal shelters are generally underfunded and understaffed. There is no money from the town. But, together we can make it happen!
Help us make Charlie’s training a reality. Please give any amount you can! Thank you!
