Charlie #2642094 is a 2-year-old dog with a gentle heart and an unimaginable past.

About six months ago, Charlie arrived at Miami Dade Animal Services as a stray. At first glance, he seemed like many other homeless dogs, but a heartbreaking discovery changed everything. Shelter veterinarians found that Charlie had been shot multiple times. Over 20 lead pellets are still lodged in his legs and chest — the result of a cruel and intentional attack by a human.

Despite his pain, Charlie has remained loving and affectionate. He seeks out human connection and wags his tail with hope. He has put on weight, begun to heal on the outside, and never lost his sweet spirit. But inside, he is still suffering.

Charlie’s body is filled with dangerous lead pellets. These can cause lead poisoning, chronic pain, and serious long-term health issues. He urgently needs surgery to remove them but the shelter does not have the resources to provide the care he needs.

Charlie has waited for months. We can’t let him wait any longer.

• Veterinary care and surgery to remove the lead pellets and prevent further harm

• Temporary boarding while Charlie recovers in a safe and loving environment

• Follow-up veterinary care to ensure he heals fully and comfortably
