Help Charlie Heal: Breast Cancer & Bone Surgery

Hello, I'm Cameron Kyser, and I'm raising funds for my mother, Charlena (Charlie). Charlie is not just a mother to three, but also a beloved grandmother to four. After retiring as an Activity Director from an assisted living community in Texas, she made the brave decision to move to Ghana in 2021 to be closer to her daughters, grandchildren and become an aquaponics and poultry farmer.

However, in early 2023, Charlie fell into a street gutter while taking a walk with her granddaughter. Yes...a dirty, bacteria-infested gutter, which are common on most streets in Accra but easy to fall into. This fall resulted in a leg injury. Despite her efforts to treat it, her health began to decline rapidly, marked by an unexplained 30-pound weight loss and the discovery of a concerning lump in her breast.

Despite seeking medical attention in both Ghana and the United States, her condition worsened, leading to a diagnosis of breast cancer and a life-threatening bone infection known as osteomyelitis.

Unfortunately, Charlie did not have Medicare because and was ineligible for Medicaid, which made surgery in the US costly and there was too much red tape to get her treated quickly. This left surgery in Ghana as the best option, but she also has no insurance here. So here we are...

Charlie's immediate family has exhausted their financial resources to cover her extensive medical treatment. Her leg surgery alone requires at least $10,000 (in Ghana), and ongoing breast cancer treatment is essential due to its spread to her lymph nodes.
