Help Charlie, a Veteran Nurse, Avoid Eviction
Donation protected
My name is Charlie, and I have been a registered nurse for almost 30 years. I am the mother of two beautiful daughters and the grandmother to four beautiful grandsons. I have worked in emergency and critical care for most of my nursing career, and I raised two daughters by myself while I went to nursing school. I understand hard times. I've been through many of them.
But I recently found myself in a situation that seems hopeless. I resigned from a job in February with two jobs in the works and the feeling that I would be able to find a job very quickly. I had $20,000 worth of 401(k) money to get me through. I felt like I was on track to get some much-needed mental health rest and then move forward with my nursing career. Little did I know it would take me almost 5 months to actually find a full-time position. My 401(k) money was depleted very quickly, and I was denied jobs that I was more than capable of working. I strongly believe it was related to my age. I am 58 years old, and I have 30 years of nursing experience. As I mentioned, healthcare is in a mess right now, and they would prefer to hire an inexperienced nurse with fewer years to save the company money. I applied for 15 positions at the hospital that I worked at for 12 years and was denied employment.
I received an eviction notice from the apartment that I've been living in since July. I've been divorced for three years, and I recently lost my best friend, who was my fur baby for the last 15 years. I have no funds. I have donated plasma and done DoorDash to buy gas and my essentials since February. I received an eviction notice, and I have no recourse. The apartment would not work with me on a payment plan. I was denied unemployment benefits because I resigned. I was denied rental assistance from Tarrant County Health and Human Services because of my 401(k) money. I've been denied help from the Catholic Church, Mission Arlington, and the Salvation Army. I've been denied from all other resources that I was able to find from calling 211, which is supposed to help you find resources to get assistance in temporary emergencies.
I am now employed full-time and also have a part-time position in the emergency department setting, but I will not be able to pay the entire amount that I owe the apartment complex before my court date, which is May 23.
I never in a million years dreamed that I would ask strangers for money, but I don't know what else to do. In less than 10 days, I will be in the streets, and yes, I do have children that I can go live with, but it will not be an optimal situation at all. The rest of my family has all passed away, and my children have their own struggles with terminally ill children and financial disaster.
If you could find it in your heart to help me out with this situation, I will be able to maintain in the future. I just need time and prayers.
Thank you for your consideration.
