Help Charli Overcome Hepatic Encephalopathy

Donation protected
Meet Charli - a happy, go-lucky, 3-month-old foster dog - from Southern Comfort Animal Rescue. Charli's short life took a change for the worse on 4/21/25. Charli started experiencing neurological issues, and her condition declined rapidly. Charli was rushed to the emergency vet as she was in very poor condition and eventually diagnosed with Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE). This is a congenital liver condition in which the blood is diverted around the liver instead of through it, leading to toxins filling her little body, resulting in the neurological symptoms.

Life post-surgery would be normal, and that is our hope! This uncommon, but life-threatening prognosis doesn't have a good outcome if not corrected with surgery. After numerous tests and panels, we have learned that Charli makes a good candidate for surgery. This doesn't come easy, as the vet bills keep soaring as we seek answers to helping our little girl recover. So far, her emergency care including a two day hospital stay, ultrasounds and other lab testing, has surpassed $5,000. Her surgery is estimated to be around another $10,000.

Thank you for reading about Charli's condition. We hope you find it in your heart to make a donation toward her care.
