Help Charley Recover After Heroic Defense

UPDATE: Charley is doing well at the ICU. He is eating and back on oral meds (from injections). His therapy is stimulating the healing process on his back legs and the doctors are happy with his progress in just 16 hours. As long as he maintains, he will be discharged this week!! I am reducing the fundraiser amount (AND a HUGE thank you to all who have donated so far! Your donations have covered his injectable pain meds that got him over the hump last night, and back on oral meds. I am sincerely grateful for your kindness and love for Charley). 

I am lowering the fundraiser amount, to cover just a couple more days of support, as Charley's condition has improved and things are looking great for discharge this week.

I come to you with a plea for assistance during one of the most challenging times my family and beloved dog, Charley, have ever faced. Just a few days ago, Charley, his sister, and I were subjected to a terrifying and unprovoked attack by two pit bulls that broke into our backyard.

In an act of incredible bravery, Charley selflessly defended his family and home, sustaining severe injuries in the process. He underwent a grueling three-hour surgery and received around-the-clock care in the ICU until Thursday, when we thought he was well enough to transfer to regular hospital care (picture above was on this day). Despite the tremendous efforts of the medical team, Charley's condition took a turn for the worse, and he's now back in the ICU for further treatment and observation.

The medical bills for Charley's care have already skyrocketed to $17,000, a burden that I've been trying my best to manage. However, as Charley's hospital stay continues, the costs are mounting rapidly, with each day of emergency vet care costing approximately $1000.

While I'm covered by insurance for the bite I received resulting from the attack, I'm running out of funds to provide Charley with the specialized care he desperately requires. With the impending lawsuit against the owners of the attacking dogs, there's hope for reimbursement, but the legal process takes time, and Charley's care cannot wait.
