Hello! My friend and colleague Charles has successfully attained a place to study Medicine at Busitema University in Uganda after many years of trying. He is a non-physician anaesthetist who has been working in rural Uganda for many years but has always aspired to become a doctor and a physician anaesthetist. When he graduates, he wants to continue working in rural Uganda where the provision of anaesthesia is challenging due to a lack of resources. Charles would like to continue to contribute to the rural community and improve the safety of anaesthetic care. I know he will make a fantastic doctor; he is already an excellent anaesthetist. He would be grateful for any financial help to cover tuition fees and living costs that will total around £1000 per year.

Charles says:

"Hello, I am Charles, Anaesthetist in eastern Uganda, now a medical student.

I completed a high diploma in anaesthesia in June 2016 from Mulago paramedical school of anaesthesia. I then moved to Mbale (eastern district of Uganda).

In rural Bukedea district 259km from Kampala, I was the only anaesthetist in the district hospital which also serves 5 other districts. I worked with a medical officer who was also the only doctor in the whole district.

This motivated me to go back to university to become a doctor so that I could go back to serve people who are under served and less privileged. I've always wanted to help people.

Another reason for going to University is that I wish to specialise in anaesthesia, and I am also interested in science and research. But I must first obtain my medical degree.

Becoming a doctor will improve my life and also allow me to help my family.

Reasons are many but serving humanity is key.
