My name is Charles, and I’ve always worked hard to provide for myself. For the past 13 months, I’ve been juggling two jobs—one as a crossing guard for the city of Memphis, and another to help make ends meet. Unfortunately, my hours as a crossing guard are limited to just 20 hours a week, and when holidays come around, those hours are cut even further.

Things became even more difficult when I lost my second job on my birthday, June 8, 2025. Since then, I’ve been struggling to keep up with my rent and my light bill. I moved into my place in September, but without enough income, I’m now behind on both. I’m doing everything I can to find more work, but the fear of eviction and homelessness is weighing heavily on me.

I’m reaching out for help because I truly need it. Being able to pay my rent for November and December, and catch up on my light bill, would give me the stability I need to keep searching for a new job and move forward.
