Help Charles Keep His Home and Heal
Donation protected
A lot of people know about my friend Charles. He is a 48 year old autistic man who lives independently, works a job, pays his own bills, uses public transportation, & more. On December 19, he was hit by a vehicle while waiting on the sidewalk for the bus in Spring Grove. Vehicle A caused an accident by hitting vehicle B which then spun around and ended up hitting him on the sidewalk. He has sustained multiple injuries, the main one being a broken tibia. He has already underwent 2 surgeries for this. He is unable to walk or stand, and can bear no weight. He is still currently in the hospital for an unknown amount of time, and will eventually be transferred to an inpatient rehab facility to be able to learn to walk again.
For anyone that knows him, you know this is a struggle. I met him many years ago while I was at work, and instantly accepted him as a friend. We went couponing together, and even now that I have my own family he still remains a part of it. I have become his legal guardian, and I am so grateful when I get to make a difference in anyone’s life. You may have seen him before in the town of Hanover walking- doing his shopping. You may have spoken to him, his favorite topics are lottery tickets, the Save coupon magazine, the Baltimore Orioles & Ravens, and Downy detergent. When not riding the bus he walks everywhere throughout town to get his groceries, coupons etc. He previously delivered the merchandiser for many years, walking around to all of his stops with his wagon. He is currently employed, but his job only offered him 5 vacation days which he used up his first few days in the hospital, and the rate was $3.50 a day. Keep in mind, he is an adult with autism so his pay is different than the average person due to the job he is doing & the facility he works at. He pays his rent by his paycheck from his job, which is $180 a week. Unfortunately right now he will not be getting a paycheck since he is out of work for an unknown amount of time, and I’m concerned that he will lose his home. I am helping his as best as I can, and trying to pay whatever I can for him but unfortunately I just won’t be able to cover it all, and I’m not sure how long he will be out either. Charles is very intelligent, works hard, and takes care of himself. This truly was a freak accident but has nonetheless screwed him because now he is stuck with no way to take care of his bills, by no fault of his own. He will be so appreciative if anyone helps him in any way, even if all that means is saying a prayer for his healing. There is truly no way for me to be able to cover all of his rent for the next few months, or I absolutely would. If you’re unable to donate please feel free to share or just say a prayer for him, it is so appreciated
