Charles almost had his happy ever after, but now he’s fighting for his life. His little kidneys are in crisis and his tiny body will shut down without the proper care. Our vets are hopeful he can pull through and return to the loving life he was so close to finally getting. But only with costly treatment—and we need help to make this happen. Charles has been through so much already; it seems beyond cruel that he should suffer—or lose his life so close to finally being safe, warm, and loved.
Charles may just be 8 lbs, but his story is as big and courageous as his spirit. He was abandoned, tied up, and left alone in a mall. To make matters worse, he was sick and almost completely blind. How scary it must have been to be abandoned by the people he loved just for getting old—and not be able to see all the noises around him in an unfamiliar place.
A mall employee eventually noticed him and took him to a municipal shelter with lots of great big loud dogs who scared little blind Charles even more. That’s when Pound_Puppy_Refuge found out about Charles and his sweet demeanor from a shelter staff member.
We found out that he shook with fear and cried out every night, but snuggled up to staff members every chance he got, never losing his sweetness amidst all his hardships. But as an older blind dog, we knew it would be hard to get him adopted.
That’s where his guardian angel—his forever foster—comes in. Together we decided that Charles' story would not end alone and scared in an unfamiliar shelter. He would be loved for his golden years and stay with his foster as long as he needed, loved and safe. Pound_Puppy_Refuge and his forever foster helped Charles get healthy again. His foster even spent much of her own money on his care. Charles stopped being afraid and started to show us how happy he was to find his person and place. He has enjoyed several months of being spoiled and well cared for. He even learned his new environment, playing and exploring, always wagging his little tail. He followed his foster's voice everywhere she went and slept safely by her side and in her arms—quickly becoming the center of her world.
Until illness took his short-lived happiness away. Charles' care has exceeded what the rescue and his foster can provide without help. Please help us give Charles back the life he has always deserved and was so close to getting. You can share this fundraiser to help as well.
In a world that far too often walks by and looks the other way, thank you for caring about a sweet tiny dog with a giant heart and will to survive.
