Help Charity Live With ALS
Donation protected
In November 2020, Charity Viayra’s world instantly shattered when she heard the three letters her neurologist diagnosed her with. ALS. A ruthlessly progressing disease, ALS is also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. In all cases, it will permanently paralyze every voluntary muscle, leading to an inevitable quadriplegic state while the mind stays intact. Her husband and love of her life, Roy, and their two daughters have given her the love and strength she’s needed since that life-altering day. Charity wants to live - not simply for herself but most Importantly for her family. She can do this. With the technological advancements of recent years, she can have a rewarding and productive life regardless of her physical condition.
She is progressing at a rapid rate. Her legs have atrophied and are so weak that she is barely able to manage the one step to her front door; can barely get up and down the stairs to get to her bedroom with a real danger of falling down them each and every time; cannot get up once sitting without assistance and even got stuck on the toilet once, and can only walk for short distances. Her hands and arms have also atrophied and become so weak, making even hugging her family a herculean effort. She’s tired and weak almost always, which is frustrating for a person who had been so active before.
What Charity needs to live safely with ALS:
+ Create an accessible bedroom and bathroom downstairs
+ Accessible bed and sit-to-stand chair
+ Aids for daily living
+ Ramp for access to and from the front door
+ Assistance with health insurance deductibles and co-pays for doctor visits and the numerous Durable Medical Equipment (DME) necessities, including a power wheelchair, ventilators and supplies for non-invasive breathing, cough assist, suction machine, etc.
100% of donations raised goes directly into Charity’s banking account.
