Charisse Carroll is a wife, mother, daughter, friend, devoted nurse, a lady of faith + one of the best people in the entire world (seriously). You know how the worst things happen to the best people? Well, here we are.

Charisse was diagnosed May 18 with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma in SITU). DCIS is the presence of abnormal cells inside a milk duct in the breast. She had a bilateral mastectomy with autologous reconstruction on Oct 3. During surgery, they found aggressive cancer in her lymph node forcing them to remove the axillary nodes. Pathology came back with a second tumor that was IDC. 

She and her husband met with the medical oncologist 10/17 and discussed chemo. Next, they met with the radiologist who formulated the planto start her on radiology a month after completing chemo. Finally, another surgery would be performed for the removal of her ovaries and meds to follow for the next 5 years.

With a treatment plan in place, Charisse wanted to go back to work. However, due to the movement issues caused by the removal of lymph nodes, she has not been able to return to work and is instead going through physical therapy to help her to regain movement. She also underwent a second operation to have a chemo port placed in her chest. 

You know how when it rains - it POURS? Well, Kevin (her husband) was then laid off by his employer.
