Help Chanthala’s Family Recover from Floods

Chanthala Sisombath and his wife Wilawan have been farming on two acres in Wailua since 2019, growing and selling their own crops at local farmers markets and stadium runs. Their hard work and dedication have been the backbone of their livelihood, providing fresh produce like bittermelon, papaya, okra, lilikoi, and pumpkin to their community. But when the Kona Low Storm hit, everything changed in an instant.

The floods devastated their farm and home. Their tractor is still stuck in the mud, and all their farming equipment—big and small—remains covered in debris. Essential household items like washing machines, a generator, refrigerator, beds, and bedding were all destroyed. Both of their cars were completely submerged, and their work van is now totaled. The crops they were about to harvest, their main source of income, are gone. With no crops to sell and their market accounts in Wahiawa and Wailua on hold, their family is facing an uncertain future.

The funds raised will help Chanthala and his wife Wilawan with immediate cleaning and recovery, basic living needs, and the restoration of their farmland. They urgently need to replace essential equipment, especially their tractor, to begin rebuilding. Farming is not just their job—it’s their way of life, and they are determined to return to it. They had hoped to celebrate Thailand New Years festivities and visit family, especially since her mother is sick, but the storm has made that impossible. Any support you can offer will make a real difference in helping them recover and rebuild.

This GoFundMe was created by volunteers from Help Maui Rise and will directly benefit Chanthala and Wilawan Sisombath. Their bank information was added for them to withdraw directly.
