After seven long years of pouring my whole heart and life force into my PhD in Clinical Psychology, I secured a year-long internship in Boston during the post-match phase, that started on September 2, 2025. This internship is the final step before I can graduate with my doctorate in June 2026.
To be completely transparent, I desperately did not want to move. Although I have ended up at an internship site that is an incredibly excellent fit, I knew how expensive relocating would be. At this time, I can see that it's even more costly than I expected, as Boston is one of the most expensive cities in the country!
The move from Chicago to Boston and the change in my income has put me significantly outside of my financial means and I will be living on an extremely tight budget for the next 11 months due to my internship stipend being only 2 dollars more than the minimum wage in Massachusetts. I’m already carrying significant student debt and I’m trying to avoid taking out more loans just to complete this last hurdle. That’s why I’m asking for support from my loved ones and community to ease the massive cost of this transition.
This internship is required for my degree and future licensure. It’s a full-time clinical placement serving diverse marginalized communities, a population I care deeply about. The cost to move for internship, which included typical Boston move-in expenses, hit all at once before my first paycheck and have left me in a bit of a financial pickle.
Your support will cover:
The cost of shipping my remaining belongings from my Chicago apartment to Boston via U-Haul's U-box service (including movers to load and unload the U-box) $1,638.35 + tipping movers.
October rent in Boston after having to unexpectedly pay for September rent in Chicago because I was not allowed to sublease due to housing disparities as an ARO tenant. $2000 + Utilities (est. $150)
Please donate any amount if you’re able! Any small amount will make a difference! And, if donating isn't possible, I would be so grateful for you to share my Go-Fund Me with friends & your social network.
Thank you in advance for helping me to finish what I started. Your support gets me across the finish line without taking on more debt, so I can show up fully for the community I’ll be serving now and in my career ahead.
You'll also be helping me to be a good cat mom :)
Thank you so much for reading all of this and for donating or sharing!
