Help Change Ugandan Lives & Our Planet through Art

Imagine waking up every morning to the smell of rotting waste, your home flooded with sewage, where you see children die from poor living conditions.

This was life in the ghettos where we live by the shores of Lake Victoria in Uganda until a small group of artists decided enough was enough.

One day, armed with nothing but two hoes, a spade, a rake, a pickaxe - and a belief in a better future - we, the artists and volunteers of Plastik Talks, cleared mountains of trash by hand.

Where the dumpsite and stench reigned, we cleared waste, and planted trees. Where children once were scared to play, they now dance, create, and thrive.

Our Mission
Plastik Talks is a group of Ugandan artists, environmentalists, and young activists who believe that creativity and community can heal our damaged world.

Our home is a ghetto by Lake Victoria, a vital freshwater resource for 40 million East Africans, that's been devastated by pollution and climate change.

We use art, creativity, and education to transform waste into opportunity, creating income-streams for unemployed and single-mothers, and protecting our environment for generations to come.

Today, our former dumpsite is a thriving eco-park:
  • A waste collection centre for the community
  • A creative playground for youth
  • An environmental education hub
  • A platform for emerging eco-artists to flourish

Why Your Support Matters
Your support is the bridge between us surviving and thriving.
Here’s what your generosity can do:

£20 → Sponsors monthly waste-to-wealth workshops for unemployed youth and single mothers

£100 → Funds a one-month eco-artist residency to research, create, and teach

£500 → Helps build an eco-artist residency centre from recycled materials, ensuring the future of our creative environmental programming

Every pound makes a difference — helping more families breathe clean air, earn a living, and live in a clean and healthy environment.

Our Impact So Far
  • Cleared a toxic dumpsite the size of two football fields — by hand!
  • Hosted 6 artist residencies leading to multiple public eco-art masterpieces
  • Established a waste collection hub serving thousands of households
  • Run monthly skill-sharing workshops reaching ~5,000 community members
  • Diverted thousands of glass bottles and plastic waste from landfills every month
  • Generated new businesses for women and youth through liquid soap production and glass upcycling
  • Led multiple environmental awareness campaigns across East Africa
  • And we're just getting started.

Our Next Chapter: Building the Future
We dream of a dedicated Eco-Artist Residence Centre - a permanent, sustainable hub built from the waste that surrounded us.
A place where creativity and positivity heals, skills are shared, and we build hope in our impoverished community

Why This Project Matters
Building Stronger Communities:
We’ve transformed a dumpsite into a vibrant green space where over 400 families now enjoy fresh air, clean surroundings, and a creative hub for learning, playing, and growing.

Empowering Women and Youth:
We create safe spaces for single mothers, unemployed youth, and children — teaching hands-on skills that create new revenue streams and transform lives

Supporting Young Eco-Artists:
We nurture young talent who use their creativity to protect the environment, giving them a platform to grow, teach, and inspire change through eco-art.

Protecting Our Planet Through Art:
Through dance, music, poetry, and visual arts, we spread the urgent message of environmental protection — reaching hearts and minds in every corner of our community.

When you support Plastik Talks, you:
  • Empower women and unemployed youth with life-changing skills
  • Give young artists a platform to thrive and inspire
  • Create a cleaner, healthier future for thousands
  • Bring hope to the heart of Uganda’s most vulnerable communities
