Help Kulatein live an Independent Teenage Life,

Kulatein is 15-year-old boy who lives with his mum, dad, sister and his little brother.

When he was born he couldn’t suckle from a bottle so we gave him drops of milk by spoon. When he was 4 months I started giving him soft mushy food. At 15 months, Kulatein was not able to stand and he had no speech. The doctors diagnosed his condition as global development delay. In 2010, technological advancements led to a diagnosis of a rare chromosome deletion syndrome, which is 2Q 33. His condition affects his ability to grow as a normal child, he has high cleft which affects his normal drinking, abnormal dentation and unable to do day to day activities by himself. At 15 Kulatein was diagnosed with Autism.

Kulatein’s global development delay and developmental impairment has resulted in the delayed attainment of milestones that other children his age take for granted such as the ability to:- sleep through the night, to communicate verbally his feelings, to feed, shower, clothe and even unable to make friends. He has to use sleeping pills to help him sleep, his parents have to make out whether he is hungry, sad or not well. His parents have to constantly worry about his health and wellbeing, they are very worried he doesn’t hurt himself.

As Kulatein is now reaching puberty, he has become even more dependent on his parents and siblings. His needs are now greater than he used to be. While other boys his age are developing normally and are the stage where it is fun to go out and about with friends, Kulatein’s inability to keep himself safe hinders him to take a walk in the park alone, go to cinemas and enjoy with friends. His parents and carers help him go out when its necessary.

Just like any parent, who would like to see their child achieve their dreams, but with Kulatein’s condition his dreams are shattered. As Kulatein’s growth impairments to learn and be able to achieve his dreams are substantially low. Kulatein’s inability to communicate and be understood has resulted him to be very isolated and his presence is not visible to many people around him. Even though Kulatein is now a teenage boy just like you would expect he would go out and about, but his situation stops him to go out freely, and results him being frustrated, emotional and sad.

Kulatein’s dad and mum are committed to his well-being and have continued to provide love, support, care and advocacy. Nevertheless, it has been a very challenging situation with sleepless nights, emotional breakdown, isolation and dealing with bullies and harassment. Parents have done everything to support Kulatein and try as much as they can to give their son independence, dignity and overcome any judgements.

Kulatein has undergone all the therapies that are available in the UK. Recently, parents researched about autism and found out about NeuroGen India, who have developed ground breaking Stem Cell Therapy for Autism in India. This hospital has a very successful track record for improving the quality of children on the autism spectrum.

Kulatein’s family are appealing to friends and well-wishers to support him to undertake this much needed treatment in India. We hope that it will help him to gain some independence, perhaps to be able to shower, dress and feed himself.

Stem Cell Therapy for Kulatein in India will cost in the region of £10,000 (excluding flights and accommodation in India).
