Help Chandler's Family Amid Hospital Struggles
Donation protected
Hello all, if you don't know me, my name is Chandler, and I am reaching out to ask for your support. Two weeks ago, my grandpa was suddenly and unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cirrhosis due to hepatitis C that he contracted when he was in the military. These last two weeks, my family has been facing the harsh reality of his diagnosis and the unimaginable challenges caused by Trios Hospital.
My grandpa has two Power of Attorney representatives, and the hospital staff purposely went behind our backs and talked to my grandpa without them present. The hospital staff waited for everyone to leave and then convinced my grandpa to discharge himself, fully knowing this was against the wishes of the Power of Attorney. Not to mention, my grandpa has been on various medications that can alter his conscious state, and he was in no state of mind to make decisions, hence the Power of Attorney. My grandma had also been vocal about not wanting him to go home as he was already comfortable where he was, and they had not given him much time to live. My grandmother had to then sit down, hold her husband’s hand and tell him he was dying and that there was nothing else they could do. He is so much pain, why unnecessarily move him?
My grandma is the only source of income. Instead of offering real solutions, Trios suggested that she quit her job. As I said, she is the only source of income, so this would not be feasible.
They offered a hospice facility, and preparations were being made to have him moved there. However, they later stated that he would only be there for one week and would have to be out by Friday, May 2nd, due to starting renovations. Again, our family was left wondering where my grandpa would go and what kind of care he would be receiving in his final moments. On Friday, April 25th, his provider mentioned Trios has a "comfort care" program. They would move him to another hospital wing and get him set up there. Our family was so relieved that after this back and forth, we finally had a care plan in place, and my grandma could continue working as someone would be with my grandpa during the day. However, this morning, April 28th, the same provider who mentioned the program said no such program exists. He will now be discharged this Tuesday with no proper plan in place.
We have less than 24 hours to prepare their home for hospice equipment and find a hospice nurse who takes their Medicare insurance. Unfortunately, in Washington State, hospice nurses are not covered, nor are night-time nurses covered in the short term. We are trying to figure out how to afford the $400 daily out-of-pocket costs for essential care, but we are greatly struggling. All while trying to navigate the upcoming loss of my grandpa.
Medical bills, rent, utilities, and caregiving expenses have begun to pile up, and our family is overwhelmed. We are doing everything we can, but it doesn't seem to be enough.
Trios Hospital's negligence, lack of communication, and broken promises have added unbearable stress to an already heartbreaking situation. They are sending him home to die without the support they said they would provide.
If you can donate, anything would help! If you can't, we completely understand, but we would like your support by sharing this page. Thank you all for supporting my family during this difficult time.
