Last Sunday, Heidi’s daughter’s best friend, Chaice, who Heidi considers a second daughter, unexpectedly lost her boyfriend and partner, Curtis, at just 35 years old. After seven years together, they had built a home and a life side by side, with hopes and plans for many more years ahead. Curtis was a man of faith, active in the Moose Lodge, and loved by many. His sudden passing has left Chaice and everyone who knew him heartbroken.

Along with the overwhelming grief of losing Curtis, Chaice is now facing the immediate financial realities of having to leave the home they shared. Without Curtis’s income, she cannot afford to remain in the house on her salary alone. She must pay $3,600 to break the lease and move out by the end of the month or face an additional $1,800 charge. She also needs to pay for professional cleaning, moving expenses, and storage before temporarily moving in with her parents.

Heidi is starting this fundraiser on Chaice’s behalf because she wants to give her something that grief has not given her: a little time and room to breathe. The hope is to help ease the immediate financial burden so Chaice can focus on saying goodbye to Curtis, being surrounded by the people who love her, and beginning to heal without the added fear of how she will pay for everything that must happen so quickly.
