Help Chad Schmid's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kurt Lindgren and I am one of many longtime friends of Chad Schmid and his family. The goal of this GoFundMe is to provide much needed financial and moral support for Chad and his family in his continual fight against cancer.

Chad (also known as "Chancho" by close friends) was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in fall of 2016. The tumor was first discovered when Chad suffered a seizure while surfing in the Pismo Beach area, and he was rescued by other surfers. Imaging revealed a Diffuse Astrocytoma tumor, which is cancerous and known to be very difficult to eradicate.

Chad underwent brain surgery at UCSF in November 2016, and he worked hard to recover. His surgery was considered a success at the time and he eventually returned to work and living with a passion for life, family, and his favorite pastimes like surfing, gardening, and playing music. Chad dedicated himself to health in all aspects of life, worked hard for his family, and moved forward with a thriving determination to beat cancer. His energy is a joy to be around, and he always spreads great vibes to everyone he comes in contact with. Whether it is through his love for organic gardening in the great outdoors, or just being around friends, Chad and family are always sharing stoke from their loving home in Grover Beach, Ca.

Unfortunately, the tumor in Chad's brain has returned. In Fall of 2021 he began to again suffer debilitating seizures, and brain scans revealed the need for more a dynamic treatment approach. The seizures and subsequent cancer treatments kept Chad from working, as well as his wife, Allison, who has had to stay home and care for Chad and their two young daughters, Earlee (age 7) and Jolee (age 5). The support from friends and his parents, Beth and Rick, has been crucial, and the Cancer fight has been impactful on all of them in many ways.

In December of 2021, Chad and Allison travelled to Houston, TX to begin a new course of treatment options at the Integrated Cancer Treatment Clinic. The clinic is known to successfully treat cancer patients in some of the most dire situations who, like Chad, have tried many other conventional cancer protocols with limited results. Chad and Allison spent nearly a month away from their children as Chad began to undergo the treatments that he continues today. They have had to pay for these oral and intravenous treatments completely out of pocket. The medication is extremely costly and thus far they have spent tens of thousands of dollars on the treatment drugs alone, not to mention the financial impact of Chad and Allison's time away from work. Chad will continue on this course of treatment until he is completely healthy, and the financial burden on Chad and his family is already daunting.

Chad discusses his condition with great optimism. In spite of a daily regime of anti-cancer medication and a strict diet, he looks and feels good, by his own account. He is hoping to sell personal items and anything he can let go of in order to help fund his battle for life. He wants people to know that he is going to win the fight against cancer. He is absolutely correct and I want Chad and his family to know that he has a team of supporters that will see him through.

Please consider donating to help Chad and the Schmid family in his ongoing fight against cancer. He is not the type of person to reach out and ask for financial help, although it is much needed for he and his family.

Thank you so much for joining Team Chancho.
