My name is Chad as many of you know. I am reaching out to share my story during one of the most challenging periods of my life, and to humbly ask for your support.

Over the past several years, I have been battling a severe spinal condition that has significantly impacted my ability to live independently. For an entire year, I was completely bedridden. During that time, I spent six and a half months hospitalized in Kelowna, followed by another five and a half months at home, still unable to walk. The physical pain, combined with the loss of independence, has been incredibly difficult.

My condition worsened when I was rushed by ambulance to Vernon Hospital due to extreme back pain and full-body convulsions. I remained hospitalized there for an additional five and a half months. During my first week, I was able to stand for the first time in a year. From that point forward, I began the long and difficult process of relearning how to walk. I spent approximately a year in a wheelchair and now rely on a walker for mobility.

I have been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis at the L5/S1 level, where my spine has shifted forward by 6mm, compressing my nerves and severely affecting the use of my legs. In addition, I have a bulging disc that requires replacement.

Despite the severity of my condition, I have been waiting nearly five years for surgery in Canada, with no clear timeline for treatment. Unfortunately, my condition continues to deteriorate, and I am no longer able to wait.

After extensive research and consultation, I have connected with a surgical team out of country, who are prepared to perform the procedure I urgently need: a spinal fusion at the L5/S1 level, along with disc replacement and nerve decompression.

• Travel and accommodation: $5,000

This surgery represents my opportunity to regain mobility, reduce chronic pain, and begin rebuilding my life.
