Help Celene, Wilmer, and family Rebuild

Donation protected
After a long 10-month fight for Wilmer’s release from the McHenry County Correctional Facility, Celene and Wilmer have been working to regain stability and joy in their home. It has taken time for their family to start healing from the violent ICE raid that took place in their home on March, 2017. Not only did the organizing around Wilmer’s case win Wilmer’s freedom in January, 2018, but it shined much needed light on the use of the Chicago gang database to criminalize and deport Black and brown people in Chicago.

This morning, February 20, 2022, Celene and Wilmer had to leave their home due to a fire in their apartment building. "We've lost everything," Celene shared in shock. There were seven people living in the apartment: Celene, Wilmer, and their five children. All seven of them made it out but unfortunately lost their small, cherished dogs to the fire. At this moment, they are having to relocate and will be living with a friend as they attempt to regain their footing. Celene, Wilmer, and their children are fighters but they also need our help at this moment.

Please donate to help Wilmer and Celene cover their basic necessities as they go through this extremely upsetting and difficult time.
