A few weeks ago my father, Leon went into the emergency room with terrible stomach pain. He was considered critical and his kidneys were failing due to the lack of hydration and infection. The hospital went to work quickly and Leon underwent multiple X-rays, scans, and tests to try to confirm what was going on. The doctors tests soon discovered a 3 cm mesenteric lymph node mass. In the next following days the doctors performed a culture and discovered that he also had Salmonella bacterial infection. After days of trying to reduce abdominal swelling, cause by his inflamed intestines, doctors ordered a repeat CT of the abdomen and pelvis areas which revealed a 5 cm infiltrating mass in the right lower quadrant obstructing the small bowel at the terminal ileum. Unfortunately when Leon went under for his operation, the surgeon found multiple masses that metastasized throughout his appendix, small and large intestines, and his colon.

 The doctors removed as much as they could but have diagnosed his cancer as stage 4 peritoneal cancer as well as extensive carcinomatosis. His chemotherapy treatments will start next week as his fight with cancer begins.

 Leon needs support to get through this.

 My father is one of those people that always has a smile on his face no matter what. Despite the countless challenges life has given him, he has always lived every day with a positive attitude and outlook on life.

He is a large family oriented person with so much love and care for his 2 kids and his newborn grandson. Leon is one of those people that works day in and day out to try to support himself and his family. He has always been recognized in his past and current jobs as one of the best and hardest working employees with many areas of recognition.

 During this span of 3 weeks Leon has not been able to work and will not be able to work to support himself. The reality of associated expenses are beginning to set in. Leon is currently on disability, receiving 40% less of his income. He is fortunate to have medical insurance but has a huge out of pocket, but he is already aware of many upcoming expenses (ie:, PET SCAN, chemotherapy, specialists, home care, etc). He has a long journey ahead and knows that with the reduced income and the ongoing medical expenses, that paying things like his rent will be a significant struggle. All funds will be used to cover medical expenses and household expenses not covered by income during this time. The friends and family of Leon would like to thank you for your consideration of support and if you are unable to contribute, please keep Leon in your thoughts
