Hi everyone,

My name is Cedric Geter, and I’ve been given an incredible opportunity to participate in a study abroad program in South Africa this summer through my college with my fellow Umoja-ASTEP learning community peers and mentors.

From June 12–28, 2026, we will be traveling to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, and Pilanesberg as part of this study abroad experience.

This opportunity means a lot to me because it will allow me to experience a new culture, step outside of my environment, and grow in ways I wouldn’t be able to in a classroom alone. It will also be my first time traveling outside of the country, which makes this experience especially meaningful and life changing for me.

I was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship toward the program, which I’m extremely grateful for. However, the total cost of the study abroad program is over $5,000, and I am still responsible for covering the remaining balance, including airfare.

As a full time college student, I am currently facing financial challenges and do not have the means to cover the rest on my own. I plan to fundraise, apply for additional scholarships, and explore other options, but with deadlines approaching, I am asking for support.

If I am able to go, I plan to fully take advantage of this experience and bring back what I learn to apply to my education and future goals.

Any support, no matter how small, truly means a lot and is greatly appreciated. Even sharing this fundraiser means a lot to me!
