Help Cedar & Nic Afford Home Mold Remediation
Donation protected
Though we’re very thankful to own our home in north Minneapolis, this past year has been full of expensive home emergencies–sewer line failures, rusted-through pipes that needed replacing, dryer ventilation issues, basement flooding, etc. Just when we thought we had endured the worst of it, this fall, we discovered some major mold issues in our home, resulting in both of us getting pneumonia. Due to health concerns, we’ve been unable to live in our home since October as we navigate the remediation process. Fortunately, we were able to get the basement remediated right before Thanksgiving, allowing us to turn on the furnace without spreading spores throughout the house, and just in time so as to avoid frozen pipes. Unfortunately though, the upstairs has yet to be remediated. The contractors will lower the ceiling of our top floor, remove the insulation, remediate the space, and re-insulate. While we’re thankful that this is finally scheduled for the end of January, we don’t have the $10,000 necessary to complete the project. Everything we’ve paid thus far has been out-of-pocket since our insurance won’t cover the damages (some really annoying fine print about concurrent damage and not covering the source of the water that caused the mold).
Frankly, neither of us are great at asking for help. We’re already so thankful for the assistance our friends and family have given us between providing housing, helping us move, and regrading around the foundation of our house. But between Cedar working in education and Nic as a PhD student, we need help coming up with the necessary funds. We’d deeply appreciate any assistance possible–even if it’s just sharing our GoFundMe.
Thank you so, so much!
