Edited on September 12, 2023: Please note that this campaign is years old. But please feel free to read it over. Cedar was/is a special boy-o.
Edited on July 11: We are now closer to knowing what's wrong. Cedar has Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia, possibly primary, so either IMHA or pIMHA. He'll most likely need several blood transfusions, over the next several weeks or months. The amount listed as the goal is nowhere near what this will cost, but it is something that will help so much. Please read his story, as well as the updates. He's a special boy, and together we can save him. Thank you so much for getting us this far. Now the real fight begins.
Hi. I want to start by saying that I appreciate that several people reached out to encourage me to create this campaign, and still others that have reached out to Jess and/or myself, offering to pitch in. This willingness to help touches my heart, as does all of the kind words of support. Recently we noticed some troubling symptoms in our sweet Cedar boy. I attempted to make an appointment for him, with his vet, and they were unable to see him until next Thursday (July 8). I felt like this was not right, and consulted with a friend (veterinarian). She said she absolutely would not wait, and that I should take him to the pet ER. We set out to do just that. Unfortunately, the initial assessment was that he is so severely anemic that a blood transfusion would be necessary to best sustain life, and then a transfer to a larger facility, for further transfusions. This was going to cost a minimum of $3800, and likely more. Services have to be paid in advance, which meant that even if we could come up with the $1800 we needed to start the process, we would have to have the rest the next morning. This being impossible, under the circumstances, our options were essentially fight or flight. Throw as many meds at him as we could, and hope that one of them helps fight off whatever caused the anemia to begin with, or euthanize. I felt like we have to try to fight for our sweet puppy boy. So we opted for the meds. But there are no guarantees that he'll survive the weekend, even, without the transfusions. So, that brings me to my appeal. I want to just try to see if we can muster the funds to help save Cedar's life. He's such a sweet and gentle soul, and the world will surely be a better place if he's able to pull through. As there are no guarantees in life, I will add that if for some reason we are unable to utilize the funds donated for his treatment, any funds donated will be donated in the name of the giver to a yet to be decided animal welfare charity. Preferably one that helps with medical needs of other animals. I'll try to keep updates going.
