Hello, my name is Andrew Shaw. My wife, Emily, and I are humbly asking for help in obtaining an extremely necessary surgery for our daughter Cecilia Shaw.
She has an issue with her jaw that is causing her great pain when performing tasks that we all take for granted. Eating, talking, even breathing is difficult due to her situation.
What she is dealing with is basically deteriorating joints where her jaw meets her skull. This is absolutely a medical condition that requires surgery, but insurance companies consider it to be cosmetic and not medically required.
The deterioration will not stop on its own and therefore the only way to correct the problem is to perform a surgery that removes the deterioration, and replaces it with prosthetics. Long story short, she needs new jaw joints. Much like
a hip replacement, the bone is cut away and replaced with a man made joint, resetting her jaw to a location that improves her ability to breath as well as restoring normal function to her jaw.
On top of all this, the closest surgeon who is qualified to perform this operation is based in St. Louis and we live in Northern Kentucky. The cost for this surgery is just over $83,000, out of pocket and upfront, and that only covers the operation. Hospital fees and travel expenses will be stacked on top of that. As a single income family of 9, odds are against us financially but this is something that absolutely must be done before Cecilia's quality of life is further affected.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Please keep us in your prayers as we tackle this situation! We cannot thank you all enough!
