Our family is living every parent’s worst nightmare.

Cecilia, a loving 13-year-old girl with autism, was tragically struck by a car in North Myrtle Beach and remains in critical condition. Over the past 24 hours, she has undergone multiple emergency surgeries as doctors worked tirelessly to stabilize her and save her life.

These surgeries included relieving dangerous swelling in her brain and repairing a damaged femoral artery. She will also require additional surgeries to repair her broken femur and address other serious injuries caused by the accident.

Cecilia was initially stabilized in Myrtle Beach and has now been medically airlifted to MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in Charleston for specialized pediatric trauma care. While this is the best place for her recovery, it places her far from home and adds an enormous financial strain for her mom, Katie, who must now manage travel, lodging, time away from work, and ongoing medical expenses.

Raising a child with autism already brings unique challenges that require extraordinary patience, strength, and resources. Katie has devoted herself to ensuring Cecilia receives the care, support, and stability she needs every day. Now, on top of those ongoing challenges, this traumatic accident has created a recovery journey that will be longer, more complex, and emotionally demanding than most families ever face.

Just weeks ago, we were celebrating Cecilia’s birthday. Now our family is praying around the clock for her healing and strength as she begins what will be a long and difficult road to recovery.
