Hello!

This is Taryn and ToNTo, fundraising on behalf of our friend Ceci. (Note: fundraiser currency is in Mexican Pesos.)

For those of you who don't know Ceci, she is a foundation of the in-town staff at NOLS Mexico, where her coworkers describe her as “doing the work of three people.” Her melodious whistling can be heard throughout campus as she bags rations or creates delicious meals for staff and students. Ceci is a proud grandmother and a kind friend to all.

Why are we fundraising for Ceci?

Ceci needs our help. She has been dealing with varicose veins for quite some time, and her condition has worsened significantly. She has had an open wound on one of her legs for over three months. This condition keeps her from working regularly, which is seriously impacting her finances.

She has started the process to get the surgery through the Mexican public health system; however, it is extremely slow. To this point, she has not even been given an appointment with a varicose vein specialist. In the meantime, she has been traveling to La Paz to seek private medical care, where doctors have confirmed that surgery is the necessary solution. The procedure can be done privately, but it costs around MXP 70,000 (approximately USD 4,000)—an amount she cannot afford on her own.

That’s why we’ve started this fundraiser. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a big difference and help Ceci get the care she urgently needs.
