My friend Ceaser is a single mom of six young kids who's working to fundraise for a security deposit, first month's rent and other move expenses to get herself and her children settled into an apartment that can safely house their whole family.
Ceaser and her children (the youngest of whom are 1 1/2 and 3 years old) have been living in an inadequate and unhealthy rental that they were recently warned is going to be put up for sheriff sale. During the severe heat wave in early July, their electricity was shut off due to their landlord owing over $9,000 in past bills, and after living without electricity for several weeks, Ceaser was only able to get it switched back on by partially paying back her landlord's debt and putting it in her own name.
In addition to exposing Ceaser's family to life-threatening heat, their current apartment is too small to comfortably house them all and is otherwise becoming more and more unsafe - Ceaser's three year old daughter's lead levels were recently found to be dangerously high, and on top of that the building has a serious flea infestation.
Ceaser has been intermittently unable to work over the last several months due to a lack of reliable access to childcare, keeping her and her family stuck in this unsafe situation because they cannot afford to move. She will soon begin to receive compensation as a home health aid for her daughter, who has autism. This will be a great relief for her family and help them to cover monthly rent, but in order to sustain this arrangement and be able to truly keep her children healthy, Ceaser needs the funds to get them out of this dangerous apartment and into a child-safe home with sufficient space for her to assist her daughter and care for her other children.
Ceaser is a great mom who's worked tirelessly to find ways to meet her children's needs against one obstacle after another. Please help get her into a home where she is set up to take care of her family in the safe, stable way that she and her children deserve!
