My name is Caty Carlin. I live in the beautiful mountains of NC in a town called Burnsville. I moved here in 1991 when I made my living as an artist. I have always loved textiles and made figurative fabric sculptures for 35 years. I currently have a clothing store called "The Grapevine" in Burnsville, NC.

On September 29th, Hurricane Helene blew through my home and flooded the entire house with 29 feet of water. The force was so great, it blew the glass doors with the frame out of the side of the house. I was not in the house at the time.

All of my belongings were destroyed along with the house. I have my life and I am deeply grateful as many people lost their lives in the flood. Burnsville has been devastated and my business has been closed. It is hard to imagine yourself inside a catastrophic disaster, but I am experiencing financial loss of great magnitude. I consider myself someone who creates beauty in what I do in the world, but all around me is devastation and loss.
