Help cats like Bob and Ollie Get Medical Care!

Tax deductible
These orange tabby cuties you are seeing are Ollie and Bob. Ollie was rescued from a good samaritan's backyard. He looks chill in the picture but has been diagnosed with cerebellar hyperplasia, a developmental condition that causes the cerebellum (part of the brain that controls fine motor skills) fails to develop properly. Luckily, the condition is not painful or contagious. His rescuer noticed his legs were very shaky and he had trouble walking - she was able to bring him indoors and contacted Hyde Park Cats for help. We facilitated neurological testing to identify the source of his instability. There is no treatment, but he is still able to live a happy and healthy life in a loving home and is adoption ready!

The cat to the left side is Bob, a friendly 2-year-old orange tabby who was recently rescued. He was found by Hyde Park Cats with his tail damaged near the base. To aid in his quality of life, Bob had to undergo emergency surgery to have his tail amputated. Bob thus got his name from his “Bobtail” and will soon be ready for adoption for a warm home.

We've helped hundreds of cats like Ollie and Bob with food, medical, and foster care. 2022 has been an unprecedented year of abandoned cats and an explosion of kittens - many found to be sick and injured. Many of our furry clients need extensive medical care, which has depleted our financial reserves and supplies. Chicago area rescues and shelters have been completely full, although this has been a national issue post-pandemic. Hyde Park Cats have committed what we can to support the community and help these poor little friends. We haven't turned any person or cat away that needed help.

We need your help to continue our rescue efforts! It costs roughly $125 to get a cat ready for adoption, which includes spay-neuter, microchip, SNAP testing, and vaccines. This does not cover any additional expenses incurred if the cat needs additional medical intervention. We are a 100% volunteer-powered, non-profit rescue - so every donation we get goes towards caring for our cats.

Thank you so much for your time and support. Hyde Park Cats counts on every donation, regardless of size, to continue our mission of helping cats and kittens in and beyond our community.

More about Hyde Park Cats:

Hyde Park Cats is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization operated completely by volunteers working to improve the lives of feral, stray, and needy cats and kittens in and around Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. We have had over 1000 adoptions since our founding in 2008 and have a robust network of loving foster homes and about 200 adoptions annually. We take in abandoned friendly cats from the street and rehome them. All the cats we admit are spayed or neutered before adoption, as we contribute to the long-term reduction of cat homelessness. When space permits, we welcome cats from open-access shelters as part of our long-term aim of reducing the number of friendly, healthy, and adoptable cats who are euthanized in shelters. We also aim to educate the general public about these issues.
