Cats Alive is a small cat rescue charity situated on Gabriola Island BC. Our mandate is to help humans help their pets and to find homes for abandoned cats. On Gabriola Island. However, recently a pretty desperate situation was brought to our attention and it appeared that no help was forthcoming from other rescues in the town on Vancouver Island. A very kind person had taken in cats in need, and as often happens, the situation spiralled out of control and there were several mothers and well over 20 kittens in their small home. Also, as is often the case, others heard of their kindness and decided this was a good place to dump their unwanted cats. Cats Alive was asked if we could help and we said yes. We currently have 22 kittens and one young, overworked Mom cat in our possession, and will try to get the rest - the other mothers (some of whom may be pregnant again) and a few more kittens in the upcoming week. As you might imagine an operation like this is very costly: food, litter, veterinary care, and so we are asking our community and beyond to help us fund the care of these beautiful cats and kittens. We expect that the total cost of this could run as high as 14,000. GoFundMe automatically reduces the amount to "for a start" but that is only a start.
